Hand-Carved Wooden Otesánek ("The Greedy Log") Marionette
Meet Otesánek, an iconic character inspired by classic Czech folklore. Handcrafted in our South Bohemian studio, this traditional wire-operated wooden marionette combines authentic storytelling with artisan craftsmanship.
The Story of Otesánek:
In classic Czech folklore, Otesánek ("The Greedy Log") is a child carved out of a wooden log by childless parents. To their amazement, the wooden boy comes to life – with an insatiable appetite! This iconic character is a beloved piece of Czech fairy-tale history, often called the Czech wooden cousin of Pinocchio. The opening belly cabinet in this marionette is a playful nod to Otesánek's legendary hunger.
